ORIGINS — THE NEW ALBUM BY ALEX MARI, RELEASED OCTOBER 9, 2026
Released on October 9, 2026, Origins, the new album by Alex Mari, is available on all major digital platforms.
Origins grew out of the desire to revisit and transform some of the earliest compositions written between the late 1990s and early 2000s, during the period that would first lead to O.D.U. and later to Ophiura.
Some of these songs had previously appeared, in earlier forms, on the 2005 demo Sospiri Ancestrali and the 2007 EP Ancestral Whispers, while others had existed only as part of the live repertoire. Origins also includes previously unreleased material and songs written in later years, some of them considerably more recent than the original core of the project.
This is therefore much more than simply revisiting the past. The songs have been completely rearranged, re-recorded and reimagined, preserving their original identity while bringing them into the present through a new production and an artistic perspective shaped by everything that came in the years between.
“I didn’t simply want to revisit the past. I wanted to give these songs a new life and finally give them the love and attention they deserved — songs I had always believed in, but that had been sitting in a drawer for far too long.”
Musically, Origins sits within melodic metal, blending cinematic textures, pop-rooted melodies, rock and metal foundations, and arrangements shaped by a progressive sensibility.
Songs written at different times and shaped by very different atmospheres and influences have been brought together through a shared sonic identity. One of the ideas behind the production was to approach them almost as if they had been written for different films: each song inhabiting its own world and atmosphere, while sharing the same overall musical and cinematic language.
Origins is not a concept album. The songs do not follow a single storyline or explore one overarching theme. Instead, they move through different worlds and dimensions — from reality to dreamlike settings, from ethereal and metaphysical spaces to more visionary and cinematic scenarios.
Above all, the title represents a return to the origins — not as an exercise in nostalgia, but as a way of bringing those musical roots into the present and transforming them into a new starting point.
The album was produced and arranged by Alex Mari, with mixing and mastering by Roberto Priori at Pri Studio in Bologna, Italy.

ORIGINS — IL NUOVO ALBUM DI ALEX MARI, PUBBLICATO IL 9 OTTOBRE 2026
Dal 9 ottobre 2026 è disponibile su tutte le principali piattaforme digitali Origins, il nuovo album di Alex Mari.
Origins nasce dal desiderio di recuperare e trasformare alcune delle prime composizioni scritte tra la fine degli anni ’90 e i primi anni 2000, nel periodo che avrebbe portato prima agli O.D.U. e successivamente agli Ophiura.
Alcuni di questi brani erano già apparsi, in forme precedenti, nella demo Sospiri Ancestrali del 2005 e nell’EP Ancestral Whispers del 2007; altri erano rimasti legati esclusivamente all’attività live. Origins comprende però anche materiale mai pubblicato e brani scritti in anni successivi, alcuni dei quali molto più recenti rispetto al nucleo originario del progetto.
Non si tratta quindi di una semplice riproposizione del passato. Le canzoni sono state completamente riarrangiate, nuovamente registrate e reinterpretate, mantenendo la loro identità originaria ma portandole nel presente attraverso una nuova produzione e una prospettiva artistica maturata negli anni.
«Non volevo semplicemente recuperare il passato. Volevo dare a queste canzoni una nuova vita e finalmente dare loro l’amore e l’attenzione che meritavano: sono brani in cui ho sempre creduto e che, per troppo tempo, sono rimasti chiusi in un cassetto.»
Musicalmente, Origins si muove nel territorio del melodic metal, unendo texture cinematiche, melodie di matrice pop, radici rock e metal e arrangiamenti dalla sensibilità progressive.
Brani nati in periodi diversi e caratterizzati da atmosfere e influenze differenti sono stati ricondotti a una stessa identità sonora. Una delle idee alla base della produzione è stata quella di immaginare le canzoni quasi come brani scritti per film differenti: ognuno con il proprio mondo e la propria atmosfera, ma tutti legati da uno stesso linguaggio musicale e cinematografico.
Origins non è un concept album. Le canzoni non sviluppano un’unica storia o un’unica tematica, ma attraversano mondi e dimensioni differenti: dalla realtà al sogno, da atmosfere eteree e metafisiche fino a scenari più visionari e cinematografici.
Il titolo rappresenta soprattutto un ritorno alle origini, non in senso nostalgico, ma come recupero e trasformazione delle proprie radici musicali in un nuovo punto di partenza.
L’album è stato prodotto e arrangiato da Alex Mari, con mix e mastering di Roberto Priori presso il Pri Studio di Bologna.
